The well promoted Chinese proverb that most self-help gurus tell their clients is:
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”
There is never a better time to get started than right now. Drop what you are doing and "Just Do It".
"Stop thinking about it and start moving. Movement is the function that gets everything done."
"Thinking about doing something never replaced actually getting it done."
Okay, now that I'm done giving you advice, here is what you need to know:
ACTION ITEMS:
1) There will always be obstacles and distractions to everything good you want to do in your life. That is guarenteed. And that is why you just need to go do it.
2) Making a list of things is good to know what you need to accomplish but from that list take the 7 largest and most important items and write them down and prioritize them 1-7. Cross off the bottom 3 and do the top 4, starting with number one. During your day those other ones do not exist. You laundry, dirty house, toys on the floor do not exist.
3) If you can't get past the distractions, set your phone's timer for 10 minutes and clean up all the big stuff as fast as you can move. This will get your largest distractions out of the way and you will now be able to focus on the task at hand. After 10 minutes of large things you will only be left with the smaller deep cleaning, which can definitely wait. If you try to do the small stuff, you will be stuck for hours.
4) Sit down and dedicate a 45 minute time period, set a timer, to getting that one task complete. After your timer goes off, take a break. Do a small task and relax because in 15 minutes you need to jump right back in and get going again for another 45 minutes. Continue this until your scheduled stopping point. Focus on those 4 items, 1 per 45 minute period and you will accomplish those goals. Your mind is an amazing tool that will figure out how to accomplish each task in that 45 minutes or how to section it off so you can accomplish those tasks. Distractions are less likely to take over your life with your priorities listed, timers set, and not overwhelming your mind with the huge picture but focussing on what is the most important.
You can do it, just believe in yourself and start getting these things done by starting right now.
